9/5//08 - The forum section of this website will be improved and updated this month, so get ready to start posting again! Alan Merrill will be doing some local New York shows now that his summer vacation is over, and European and Far East tours are also in the works for the year's end and early 2009.
8/15//08 - Tour dates for the fall are being planned, starting in September, so check the Tour Dates section of this website for information. The now nearly mythical Alan Merrill autobiogaphy is in the final phase, and should be avaialble by the holiday season. Alan has worked the entire summer to finish the book, which by all accounts will be a mind boggling read. You won't be able to put it down once you start reading.
7/15//08 - Recorded during the 1968-1971 time period, Alan Merrill's 17 song long awaited solo album titled "Alien In Tokyo" is set for release this month. The album is almost entirely in Japanese, and includes a vocal duet co-write with the legendary Monsieur Kamayatsu (The Spiders), and a cameo appearances on bass and drums by Alan's long time friends Tetsu Yamauchi and Yuji Harada.
6/20//08 - Alan Merrill's 16 song solo album titled -"The Aleecat, Live In Japan" is set for release by early this month. Link to lyrics and photos here of the Live In Japan album, recorded in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo in 1990. This includes never released original Merrill compositions. This is pure raw rock 'n roll.
5/15//08 - The previously mentioned Alan Merrill 6 song Maxi single EP titled "Hard Road" will be released and available mid month. Live shows are now in the works for September in Tokyo and beyond. After 40 years in the music business, under his physician's advice Alan Merrill is taking a summer vacation of total rest and recouperation for 14 weeks off on a remote island rehab facility, with no live dates scheduled until the autumn. Clean up time! The forum and journal section of this site will be closed for updates and renovations until Sept. '08.
4/4//08 - New Alan Merrill 6 song Maxi single EP titled "Hard Road" is set for release by the end of this month. As always some live shows are planned for the New York City area, both band backed and solo acoustic. News: Alan is preparing to release a 16 song "Live In Japan" album, recorded in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo, including some never released original Merrill compositions. It should be out next month.

2/11//08 - Alan is busy recording all this month in New York City, on three different projects. News: Japanese idol singer Mami Kubota has recorded a new and different version of of "I Love Rock 'N Roll," set for release on EMI in May of this year . Also, Alan will do some surprise local New York shows to round out the month.
1/8//08 - The new year started with Alan doing a rave up show in New York City at Nancy's Bar in Manhattan. Also news: Alvin and the Chipmunks have used a version of "I Love Rock 'N Roll" in the new film "Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007). Alan is back in the studio working on a new maxi single and also finishing up work his 1970 solo album reissue "Alone In Tokyo" (Redux), set for release in thenext few months. Solo acoustic Jan. 18th at the Alphabet Lounge, NYC.
12/8//07 - The year winds up with some band backed shows in the New York City area this month. Also, Alan is in the studio working on his 1970 solo album reissue "Alone In Tokyo" (Redux), set for release early next year. All with unique, never before heard remixes with bonus tracks.
11/4//07 - Alan Merrill will do some rare solo acoustic shows in the New York City area this month in downtown Manhattan. Also, Alan has been added to the Living Legends of Music website. Superstar actress/singer Lee Da Hae has recorded a new version of Alan's composition "I love rock n roll" in Korean!
10/4//07 - Local acoustic and band backed shows in the New York City area this month, and an hour long appearance on the Atlantic Tunnel radio show October 6th. The long awaited maxi-single titled "Rive Gauche," a tribute to the hits of The Left Banke is out this month, with bonus tracks. See the Alan Merrill "Walk Away Renee" video here ! A tour of Europe is being planned for February and March of 2008. Watch the tour dates section of this website for details.
9/14//07 - Alan Merrill's 6 song maxi single, a tribute to the hits of theband The Left Banke (and more), will be done at the end of September 2007. Also, Alan is doing some some solo acoustic and band backed shows around the New York City area this month.
8/05//07 -Recent remastering of the 1970 Solo Alan Merrill LP "Alone In Tokyo" (all in Japanese) which will be re-released for the first time in the US, UK and Europe, with bonus tracks early in 2008. Also, Alan has a short story of his playing with the band Meat Loaf in the Ian Carroll authored documentary book about the History of the Reading Festival in the UK which will be released at the end of this month. Please note: Fuji TV will repeat the 90 minute global broadcast of the "Sekaii Gumi" show featuring Monsieur Kamayatsu and Alan Merrill on Aug.16th.

5/03/07 - Alan is planning to rush release a solo 5 song extended play summer single next month. It is being mastered in New York City. He is also filming a documentary special for Fuji TV Japan with Vodka Collins bandmate and former Spiders member Monsieur Kamayatsu in New York City. This show debuts on air July 18th on Fuji TV's "Sekai Gumi." show. Also ,if that's not enough for you, there's a new Alan Merrill and Adriana Lima video on youtube!

3/07/07 - The long awaited Ron Wood tribute album featuring Alan Merrill and various other artists is to be released the last week of March '07. Also, if you haven't already, go have a look at the Adriana Lima video featuring the gorgeous model and Alan Merrill's solo version of "I love rock n roll." It's outstanding.
2/07/07 - Alan is busy writing away, finishing his autobiography and is determined to have it released by the end of 2008.

12/7/06- The Arrows long lost 70s
video of "I
love rock n roll" is up on youtube, featuring Alan

album "A Merrilly
Christmas" is reissued and on sale now. Some local
New York City shows round off this month.
11/6/06 - This month Alan is back
in the studio finishing his now nearly mythical 5 song solo
EP with Kirk Yano engineering at Planet Recording in New York,
and also doing a cameo vocal on CJ jr's new project, "Parias."
Alan Merrill's song "I Love Rock 'N Roll" appears
in two current feature films, "Tenacious D in The Pick
Of Destiny" and "The Covenant." - Some local
New York live dates round out this month's activity.
10/7/06 -
The release of the Ron Wood tribute recorded
a year ago has been delayed until December '06. There's information
here about the project and producer (Curt Scheidegger), the
owner of Kurious Records.
It's titled "We've Got Our Own Best Of To Do," featuring
three lead vocals by Alan Merrill, and many guest artists. Also
out in December on Kurious Records will be a 3 song Nikki Sudden
EP single, "Don't Get Jazzy With Me," with Alan Merrill
on bass guitar, and Darrel Bath on guitar.
9/2/06 - Alan's new solo album

is back from a trip to the UK, France, and Switzerland. The
mastering of the Ron Wood tribute has begun. Estimated release
for June 2006.
3/25/06 - Alan
Merrill performs with Nikki Sudden at the Knitting Factory in
New York City. Sadly, it was Nikki's last show. He passed away
only a few hours after the set. RIP Nikki Sudden.
3/16/06 - Remastering
the 1970 album "Merrill 1" for re-issue, with 3 previously
unavailable bonus tracks .
2/19/06 - Recording a 5 song EP
in New York City, and doing some live dates locally.
1/09/06 - Alan's
in the mixing phase, two recording projects, the Ron Wood tribute

returning from recording the Ron Wood tribute album in Switzerland,
our Aleecat has been hard at work on a new solo EP for release
before the end of the year. Also Reverend Run has released the
Alan Merrill co-write "Mind On The Road" on August
29th, and the video is currently getting lots of play on MTV.
7/15/05 -
Alan Merrill performs in New York City, at the South Street
Seaport (avi film file below) as a part of the Beat Goes On
"Tribute to New York" show. He had just returned from
performing at the Blue Note Tokyo, doing 12 shows there, July

6/20/05 - Newly
released! A bi-lingual Alan Merrill single, versions both in
English and Japanese, of his 70's hits "Sands Of Time"
and "Automatic Pilot." It will be on the MEC Record
label's Flashback series.
6/13/05/ - Legendary
godfather of rap Reverend Run (Run/DMC) records his first ever
solo single, using the chords and riff from Alan Merrill's Arrows
hit "I love rock' n roll," and it's called "Mind
On The Road." The single is from his album titled "Distortion"
which will be out this September. Look out for Reverend Run's
MTV reality show "Run's Place" which will air in October
2005, and will feature the song "Mind On The Road."
"5/15/05 - Singer
Salome Clausen makes the Swiss charts with the song "I love
rock 'n roll." Her album is also number one.
4/20/05 - Vodka
Collins' "Tokyo New York" album will be reissued in
Japan on April 20th, 2005. Alan will be travelling to Japan to
promote the CD.
3/10/05 - Alan Merrill's
first solo show in NYC in many years took place at The Cutting
Room. It was a great success.
2/1/05 - Mixing
the song "Automatic Pilot" for a TV commercial at Planet2Planet
studio in New York City with Kirk Yano engineering.
1/17/05 - A surprise
appearance at B.B. King's club on 42nd street in New York City
by Alan Merrill with the Jon Paris Group.
12/17/04 - Alan
Merrill performed at "The Beat Goes On" Christmas Show
at Crash Mansion in New York City.
11/1/04 - Alan Merrill
will be in London mastering the new Arrows reissue compilation

- Alan is now remastering and
producing the upcoming Vodka Collins compilation, to be titled
"Boys in the Band". A definite track listing will
soon be available. Alan is also booking a tour of Japan to
promote the release, due in September.

- Alan's version of "Slow
Down" will be released on BullseyeCanada.com's
Beatles tribute, "It Was 40 Years Ago Today".
Okay, sure, "Slow Down" wasn't written by the Beatles...
but it was written by the legendary Larry Williams, famous also
for "Boney Maroney", "Dizzy Miss Lizzy",
"Bad Boy", "Short Fat Annie", "She Said
Yeah", and many others. Lennon was a huge fan, which is

- Alan's latest album is officially
wrapped. He's now busy completing his autobiography, as well
as getting together tracks for a Vodka Collins collection to be
released in Japan, which he will be remixing.

The Best of The Arrows is
slated to be released on EMI in Fall, 2004. It will
feature new, previously unreleased tracks, produced by
Mickie Most, including "Wake Up", and the Johnny
Burnette song, "Dreamin", cut in 1974. Also to be
included in this unique package are Arrows self- produced TV
tracks, also previously unreleased, from 1976. Rounding out the
collection are better-known Arrows gems.
Alan is in Studio 900 in NYC on Monday, working on the tracks
he laid down in the UK last month-- all new songs, his
compositions. So far, musical co-conspirators include Dave
Glover (bass), Peter Phipps (drums), and Joel Diamond (keyboards).
More will be stepping on board as time goes by.

- Since the year 2000, Alan has released a 21 song solo album
titled Cupid Deranged. The CD is a recorded look back
over the shoulder at his career repertoire across the years, mixed
in with some newer Merrill songs as well. For those of you who
missed this artist first time around, this release will fill you
in on a most interesting artist. Apart from the 2001 album Cupid
Deranged, Merrill has released a solo Christmas album in
2002, A Merrilly Christmas, and also the recent double
album tribute in 2003 to Arthur Alexander and Otis Blackwell, Double Shot Rocks. In recent years he has been residing
in Paris and New York City.
7/11/03 - Alan Merrill has returned from Japan,
where his surprise Tokyo gig on 7-7-03 at the night club Amrta
is the talk of the town.
6/7/03-
Alan Merrill will be in Tokyo for the 30th anniversary of the
Vodka Collins Tokyo-New York album. There will be
a live show recorded for the event at the end of June or early
July. The venue is to be announced.
